Child-Focused Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation

Child-focused infant and early childhood mental health consultation (IECMHC) supports the needs of individual children whose development or behavior is of concern to families or early care and education staff. A SUCCESS consultant helps the child’s caregivers understand, contextualize, and address the child’s social and emotional needs by developing and implementing an individualized plan. This service is available to DHS-licensed and RI PreK center-based programs.

Child-focused consultation services include:

  • Observation, standardized questionnaires, and conversations with program staff and the child’s caregivers.
  • Feedback and recommendations provided to program staff and families regarding consultation findings.
  • Collaborative planning with program staff and families to identify strategies and supports.
  • Follow-up consultation to integrate consultation recommendations, including:
    • Supporting staff to implement individualized strategies for the child’s social, emotional, and behavioral needs.
    • Helping families get connected to community supports and services.
