The Geriatric Fracture Program at Rhode Island Hospital is specifically designed to address the needs of elderly patients who have suffered a fracture, particularly a hip fracture.
Fractures are a common and extremely debilitating injury among older people. Our program, the first of its kind in the region, was developed to provide patients with the very best care, from the moment they come through the doors of the emergency department all the way to recovery. A collaboration among the departments of orthopedic surgery, emergency medicine and the division of geriatric medicine, our program involves specialists in numerous disciplines in order to address all the factors that contributed to a patient’s fracture and their impact on recovery.
Roman Hayda, MD, and Nadia Mujahid, MD, co-directors of the geriatric fracture program at Rhode Island Hospital, discuss how their collaboration will benefit older patients.
