Our Family Therapy Program helps families and couples deal with a wide range of relationship and psychiatric issues. The program's clinicians provide multidimensional evaluations and treatment. Treatment begins with a comprehensive family assessment, and all work in the clinic is guided by the McMaster Approach to evaluating and treating families. The McMaster Approach is a problem-centered method that allows families to identify their concerns and the steps they want to take to address them.

Patient of Record
Although the whole family is the focus of treatment in family therapy, records will be kept under one adult family member’s name, and we call that person the “patient of record.” To make a family therapy appointment, the patient of record must have had an individual evaluation with one of the clinicians in the outpatient psychiatry program at Brown University Health.
