Hasbro Children's Psychiatric Emergency Services

Psychiatry Emergency Services (PES) at Hasbro Children’s provides emergency psychiatric evaluation and crisis management for adolescents and children, linking children and families to treatment programs for needed follow-up care.

All emergencies are seen by experienced clinicians and discussed with or seen by a child psychiatrist.

This service runs 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Staffing includes psychiatrists, licensed clinical social workers and mental health counselors, psychiatric nurse practitioners and physician assistants, master’s level psychology clinicians, and psychiatry fellows and residents.

Bradley Hospital Crisis Service

The Crisis Service program at Bradley Hospital is for children and adolescents who have no current mental health provider and an urgent need to be seen for crisis stabilization following an emergency department visit.

The Crisis Clinic program is for children and adolescents who are unable to wait more than 72 business hours for an evaluation and may require more treatment than can be offered in a traditional outpatient setting. Crisis Clinic patients must first be assessed at Hasbro Children’s emergency department or at the Access Center at Bradley Hospital, where a clinician will conduct a psychiatric evaluation, including a safety evaluation, and determine if a referral to the Crisis Clinic is appropriate.

Crisis Clinic clinicians provide evaluation of children and their families within 72 business hours of their assessment in the emergency room or Access Center. Children and adolescents are seen by a multidisciplinary team that includes a child and adolescent psychiatrist, a senior clinical psychologist, and trainees. This service helps to stabilize children and families in crisis and connect them to the mental health services they need.
