Once your physician’s referral has been processed, our pediatric sedation services scheduler will contact you directly to arrange the best appointment time. You are welcomed to follow-up to be sure your referral has been received by calling us at 401-444-6091.
Once you have an appointment time scheduled, our nurses will contact you to review pre-sedation instructions specific to your child’s appointment.
We will remind you that your child’s stomach must be empty (except for medicines) for sedation:
Your child must stop eating 6 hours before your appointment but can still drink clear liquids.
Your child must stop drinking clear liquids 2 hours before the appointment.
On the Day of Your Appointment
We ask that you and your child:
Arrive on time
Bring soothing items for the child such as stuffed toys, pacifiers, music or movies, books, blankies
Only one caregiver can accompany the child into the sedation unit

If you have any questions, are running late, or if your child is sick, please call us at 401-444-6091.
During the Appointment
After registering, our sedation nurse will bring you to the sedation area for your pre-sedation check. You will then meet one of our sedation nurse practitioners or doctors to complete the check and finalize a sedation plan with you, and have you sign a consent form for sedation. If your child will be having a procedure, the person performing the procedure will meet with you at this time also.
Once the pre-sedation and pre-procedure checks are complete, your child will move to the sedation/procedure area to have their test/procedure completed.
For most appointments, you can remain with your child the entire time. If you are asked to step out of the room for any reason, our team will guide you to the best waiting area.
