What to Expect in Pediatric Blood Disorders Evaluation
Many children who are seen by their pediatricians may be referred to our pediatric blood disorder program at the Hemostasis and Thrombosis Center due to an abnormal laboratory test or symptoms of a possible blood disorder. Diagnosis of a blood disorder is made using specialized laboratory tests performed by the Rhode Island Hospital Laboratory. Some children may require blood transfusions or other therapies, while many do not.
With our care, most patients enjoy healthy, active daily lives, fully participating in school or work, non-contact sports, and other activities.
Our Team of Caregivers
Our team, which includes physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, phlebotomists, social workers, medical assistants, psychologists, registered dietitians, rehabilitation therapists, pharmacists, child life specialists, and administrative staff, collaborates to enable the quickest possible diagnosis of your child’s condition and a timely start to therapy as well as superb follow-up care.
