Surgical Education and Research Activities
The division of minimally invasive surgery maintains an active educational program. A relationship with Ethicon Endo-Surgery enables the division to be one of 10 University Based Education and Research Centers (UBERC) in the United States.
Highlights include:
- Monthly programs on laparoscopic solid organ surgery, antireflux surgery, colectomy and hernia surgery which provide training to surgeons in general surgical practice throughout New England.
- A multi-day symposium, Controversies in Minimally Invasive Surgery, is held annually in Brewster, Massachusetts.
- The division has full telesurgery, telementoring and teleconferencing capabilities.
- An active research program exists with strong emphasis on collaborative efforts with industry in new product development and evaluation. The principle interest of the division is in energy based technology for cutting, coagulating and welding tissue.
