Silvia S. Chiang, MD

Silvia S. Chiang, MD is a pediatric infectious diseases physician at Rhode Island Hospital, its Hasbro Children’s, and The Miriam Hospital. Dr. Chiang's specialty includes a focus on research and treatment of pediatric tuberculosis (TB). As a clinical investigator, she spends time researching pediatric TB in Peru, where she works closely with Partners In Health-Peru (PIH-Peru), an international non-governmental health care delivery organization. Since 2012, she has worked extensively on childhood TB research, patient care, and public health interventions with PIH-Peru. Dr. Chiang is also an assistant professor of pediatrics at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. 

Dr. Chiang received her undergraduate degree from Stanford University, and her medical degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. After medical school, Dr. Chiang completed her pediatrics training at the Boston Combined Residency Program in Pediatrics (Boston Children’s Hospital and Boston Medical Center), followed by an infectious diseases fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine, Texas Children’s Hospital. 

For the last several years, Dr. Chiang has been analyzing clinical data on adolescent TB. Her long-term goals are to build a robust adolescent TB research portfolio. Currently, she is collaborating with faculty members at Brown and Boston Universities on TB research in Ukraine.
