Search results will first present, in alphabetical order, physicians employed or contracted with Brown University Health or its affiliates, followed by an alphabetical listing of physicians who are in Brown University Health’s network of affiliated providers. At the end of that initial list, you can access an alphabetical listing of community physicians with privileges at Brown University Health hospitals. All physicians in Find a Doctor have the opportunity to have a picture or video posted on the site. Neither the order of physicians, nor the presence or absence of a photo or video, in Find a Doctor is intended to reflect any preference, priority, or recommendation by Brown University Health. Find a Doctor search results are also not based on the volume or value of referrals to Brown University Health or its affiliates from any listed physician. Joseph A. Gil, MD, is an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in treating hand and upper extremity conditions.
With advanced training in hand and upper extremity surgery, Dr. Gil has an interest in brachial plexus injuries, nerve conditions, tendon transfers, soft tissue reconstruction, wrist and finger arthritis, athletic wrist injuries, and upper extremity trauma.
Dr. Gil earned his medical degree at Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine, Chicago, and completed his orthopedic surgery residency and an orthopedic trauma fellowship at Brown University. He later completed a fellowship in hand, upper extremity, and microvascular surgery at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota.
With a passion to advance orthopedic research, Dr. Gil has co-authored more than 120 clinical and basic science research papers. He is also the author of several book chapters and has presented his studies at multiple national and international meetings.
He is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon with the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery with the Surgery of the Hand Subspecialty Certification. Dr. Gil is assistant professor of orthopaedics at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University.
