Search results will first present, in alphabetical order, physicians employed or contracted with Brown University Health or its affiliates, followed by an alphabetical listing of physicians who are in Brown University Health’s network of affiliated providers. At the end of that initial list, you can access an alphabetical listing of community physicians with privileges at Brown University Health hospitals. All physicians in Find a Doctor have the opportunity to have a picture or video posted on the site. Neither the order of physicians, nor the presence or absence of a photo or video, in Find a Doctor is intended to reflect any preference, priority, or recommendation by Brown University Health. Find a Doctor search results are also not based on the volume or value of referrals to Brown University Health or its affiliates from any listed physician. Users are free to select their physician of choice from among all Brown University Health-affiliated medical staff physicians.

Iole Ribizzi-Akhtar, MD
Oncologist
Iole Ribizzi-Akhtar, MD, is a board-certified oncologist with the Brown University Health Cancer Institute at The Miriam Hospital and an assistant professor of clinical medicine at The Warren Alpert School of Medicine of Brown University.
Prior to joining the Brown University Health Cancer Institute, Dr. Ribizzi-Akhtar worked as an attending hematologist oncologist and clinical educator at the Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island and as an attending hematologist and oncologist at Kent Hospital in Warwick, Rhode Island.
She has collaborated on medical research published in academic journals. Her main interest is head and neck cancer particularly in the context of clinical trials of new therapies.
She completed an internship and residency in internal medicine with The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University at Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island, a medical oncology fellowship at the University of Genova in Italy, a clinical pharmacology fellowship at Rhode Island Hospital, and a hematology and oncology fellowship at the University of Massachusetts.
She earned a medical degree from the University of Genova Medical School.
Dr. Ribizzi-Akhtar is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, American Association for Cancer Research and the American Society of Hematology.
