Critical Care Paramedic and Operations Manager

Nelson Pedro is a critical care paramedic and operations manager for LifePACT at Rhode Island Hospital.

Pedro earned his degree in paramedicine from Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts. He further expanded his expertise by completing firefighter and emergency medical training at the Cranston Fire Academy in Rhode Island. His advanced critical care training includes specialized programs at the University of Maryland in Baltimore and the Cleveland Clinic, equipping him with the skills necessary to manage high-acuity transports in complex medical environments.

As one of LifePACT’s original team members, Pedro has been instrumental in shaping the hospital’s critical care transport program. In his current role, he oversees a multidisciplinary team of over 50 paramedics, EMTs, nurses, and physicians, ensuring seamless and high-quality patient transfers. His leadership extends beyond clinical operations—he has been a driving force in strengthening EMS-hospital relations, enhancing communication between local emergency responders and hospital staff to optimize patient outcomes.

Pedro also spearheaded the development of the Medical Communications Center at Rhode Island Hospital and Hasbro Children’s, a transformative initiative that has significantly improved door-to-balloon, door-to-puncture (stroke), and door-to-trauma evaluation times. His efforts have led to measurable advancements in patient care, reduced treatment delays, and improved survival outcomes for critically ill and injured patients. 

With a passion for education, operational efficiency, and clinical excellence, Pedro continues to lead initiatives that enhance prehospital and interfacility transport services, ensuring the highest standard of care for patients across the region.
