April Highlander, PhD, is a NIH T32 postdoctoral research fellow funded by the Research Training Program in Stress, Trauma & Resilience (STAR) at The Miriam Hospital and the department of psychiatry and human behavior at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University.

Dr. Highlander's research focuses on mechanisms of symptom presentation and disparities in mental health outcomes for children and families experiencing stress and adversity. The majority of her work focuses on the impact of socio-ecological (e.g., socioeconomic status) and family-based (e.g., parenting) factors. In addition to serving this patient population clinically, she is also interested in improving the implementation and evaluation of community-based interventions to enhance family-level well-being.

Dr. Highlander completed her PhD at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and her predoctoral internship at the University of Pittsburgh Department of Psychiatry, Western Psychiatric Hospital.
