Emily Gathright, PhD, is a research scientist at the Center for Behavioral and Preventive Medicine at The Miriam Hospital. She completed a doctoral degree in clinical psychology at Kent State University and clinical residency at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. Dr. Gathright then completed a research fellowship at the center, funded by a T32 grant from the National Institutes of Health.
Her research seeks to understand psychosocial (e.g., depression) and behavioral (e.g., adherence) contributors to poor health outcomes in older adults with a goal of developing interventions to support healthy and meaningful aging. Dr. Gathright was awarded a K23 Career Development Award by the National Institute on Aging. Dr. Gathright’s research supported by her K23 will seek to develop a values-affirmation-based medication adherence intervention for older adults with heart failure.
