Natasha Sokol, ScD, earned her doctorate in social epidemiology from the Harvard School of Public Health. She completed a postdoctoral fellowship in addiction studies at the Center for Alcohol and Addiction Studies in the Brown University School of Public Health. Dr. Sokol's research centers on the experiences of birthing people in the perinatal period, with a particular focus on the influence of obstetric provider behaviors. With a justice-oriented approach, her work aims to inform interventions that address institutional and individual behaviors that impact birthing people, including by addressing multiple interacting sources of adversity that is unevenly distributed across the population, with the goal of closing gaps in perinatal health in the United States. As a certified lactation counselor, Dr. Sokol also provides family-centered lactation support in the community.
