Hasbro Children’s Hospital today marked its 26th year by recognizing the hospital’s 2019 Brite Lites award winners. This year’s honorees were among more than 55 employees nominated by patients and their families for the dedication and compassion shown children in their care. 

Five Hospital Employees and Nemo of the K-9 Comfort Program Recognized 

The 2019 winners are:

Cynthia Donnelly, RN, of Attleboro, MA, pediatric intensive care 

Sarah Ferszt, LICSW, of Cranston, RI, clinical social work

James Ziegler, MD, of Saunderstown, RI, pediatric cardiology

Ari Vera, greeter, of Providence, RI, Valet Parking New England

Deborah Nordahl, BSN, RN, CPHON, of Rochester, MA, pediatrics, Hasbro Children’s 5th floor

Nemo, a K-9 comfort program dog at Hasbro Children’s, was named this year’s honorary Brite Lite. He, together with handler, Tara Brown, NP, of Johnston, RI, works with patients and families in the hospital’s pediatric palliative care unit.

From nurses and physicians, to administrators and patient experience staff, our goal is always to provide the best expertise, knowledge, compassion and respect to each child,” said John B. Murphy, MD, president, Rhode Island Hospital and Hasbro Children’s Hospital, and executive vice president, physician affairs, Lifespan.

The Hasbro Children’s Brite Lite employee recognition program launched in 2002. It was designed to incorporate Hasbro Children’s family-centered care objectives: communication, competence, cooperation and caring.
