Torrey Boland Birch, MD, is director of neurocritical care at Rhode Island Hospital, where she also serves as the neurocritical care director of quality and safety. She is board certified in neurology and neurocritical care from the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and neurocritical care from the United Council for Neurological Subspecialties in Neurocritical Care.

Prior to her role at Brown University Health, Dr. Birch worked at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago in several roles, including associate professor of neurology and fellowship director of neurocritical care. 

She earned a medical degree from Thomas Jefferson University’s Sidney Kimmel Medical College in Philadelphia. She completed an internal medicine internship at Hahnemann University Hospital, a residency in neurology at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, and a neurocritical care fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital.

Dr. Birch is a member of the Society of Critical Care Medicine, the Neurocritical Care Society, and the American Academy of Neurology. She has presented at numerous conferences and collaborated on medical research published in academic journals.
